Re: V3 video recording question Posted: 03-04-2006, 08:15 PM Oh, I see. So this is not a defect. Just some limitation of thesoftware load? Why ewould the thing be designed like that I wonder. I actually timed the clips I can record, and it turns out that i get about 6 seconds of video. This is nextto useless, so I don't understand why the feature exists if you're going to cap it at 6 seconds. Anyway, I'm a bit reluctant to try modding at this point. The rest of the phone seems to work pretty well. Also,it's tough to tell on the site you referred me to, what would be the appropriate version of flash to use. Is it always the most recent one? Have you any experience flashing the V3? Sorry for all the dumb questions. I don't know anything about modding really. TIA for your answers. Re: V3 video recording question Posted: 03-04-2006, 11:04 PM If that doesn't work then you'll need to do the firmware upgrade to enable you to do it. Another benefit, if your load doesn't already have it, is the ability to search the phonebook using more than one letter. > Try this: Menu:Messages: Menu: Inbox Setup: Message Setup: Size > Limit: None > Menu: Multimedia: Video Camera: Menu: Video Setup: Video Length: MMS. > .. > bamp
Re: V3 video recording question Posted: 03-05-2006, 12:14 AM Hello,I have a V3 RAZR (Black) and applied several modifications after a few days. Most changes are pretty safe as they can be undone if you first make a copy before applying the changes. I've read through the mods and you don't even need to flash the system to get the feature you want. On Sat, 4 Mar 2006 20:15:46 UTC, Just Me <local_vintage@REMOVETHIShotmail.com> wrote: > Oh, I see. I recall that my Cingular load (and default Motorola load) defaults to about a five second video limit. There is an internal setting you can make. There were three limits I recall reading about: 5 sec, one minute, and five minute. That is from memory, the actual limits may be something else. The motomod site and others have a utility to manipulate the memory settings on your phone. Another site documents what various memory settings affect. I'll look those up later and get you the references I used. My modifications were to adjust the sound levels up to where they were good for me. I also prefer to download pictures and video directly to my PC instead of emailing them to someone. Why would I want to PAY my provider if I don't need to send the pictures this minute? I can download them to my PC and use my home email for free. Since a 5 second video is rather small it would also be reasonable to email using the phone. My Cingular load has 5MB space for apps, pictures, and movies. That would be a huge amount to email from your phone. > I actually timed the clips I can record, and it turns out that i get > about 6 seconds of video. I've not flashed my V3 as the Cingular load appears to be nearly the complete functionality. There is a load that does have a few features I don't want yet. A flashing failure could hurt the phone more than just modding it. From memory here is the procedure to extend the video time on my phone. Attach cable to phone and PC. Look up the mod location for the video feature. It will probably be something like a page number and one or two specific bytes to change. Use the software to load the page. Keep a copy of the unchanged page... in case you goof up and the phone doesn't work. [For example if you changed the wrong thing.] Change a copy of the page as described. Upload the change to the phone. Tell the phone to reboot. ...test your change. The first time you do this will take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or so depending on how much reading and caution you take. Making the second change will take something like a minute. > Sorry for all the dumb questions. I don't know anything about modding > really. None of us did until we complained and learned of the solution from those that did. At least Motorola thought ahead and nearly everything can be changed. Only a few providers deviated much from the base load and tried to restrict the functionality of the V3. Good luck, David > TIA for your answers. > > > > "BruceR" <br@NOhawaiiSPAM.com> wrote in news:CgmOf.1227$pV5.981 > @tornado.socal.rr.com: > > > You can change that to well over a minute but you'll need to flash the > > phone. Re: V3 video recording question Posted: 03-05-2006, 12:25 AM Okay, I found it again. The changes for most V3 phones aredocumented at http://www.planetmotox.net/ About halfway down the page it mentions how to _turn on_ video recording if it was disabled by your provider. It also mentions how to set the recording mode to infinite (limited by memory). These are performed with a SEEM Edit. A flash may not be necessary.
