What system can a V551 be used with? Such as GSM, TDMA, CDMA
I have a V551 on GSM and someone was telling me that it could be "turned
up" where it will work better in fringe areas. Is this true?

No. An external antenna is your best bet.

While locked you are correct as in most units.
