I got the same; after puzzling over it a while I decided it was a pretty
little marketing thing that Motorola would like you to hang from your
rear-view mirror, key-ring or whatever. I couldn't figure out any practical
purpose it might serve.

I've heard tell that it can be used to clean the screen. I tried that and it
failed dismally. Maybe you're just supposed to hang it off the end of the
phone?

ohhhhh maybe that's it! I tried it and it did work. Did you try the
correct side of it? The side without the logo?
It did work although it's rather silly since you could just use your shirt
sleeve. <s>

Good god, I think you've got it. I always assumed that the plastic surface
would do the cleaning, instead of the soft fabric side.

Good god, that one was low. Not low enough though.

I actually tried using the motorola "pillow", but it just spread the grease
around. I use a micro-fibre cloth from the optician's. Works a charm.

God yes. I have to wear a uniform at work, and the temptation to use the
sleeve of that (heavy cotton/nylon mix - one that body fluids doesn't stick
to very well) is too great sometimes.

I have a chamois leather, but it's been used on the car windows - maybe not
the best choice... I'll stick with my optician's cloth.

What's really annoying is the raised effect of the blue keypad LED - gathers
finger grease and then makes a nice imprint on the screen. Try to clean it
off when the phone is on, and end up calling my mother with sounds of me
frantically cleaning the keypad coming out of her phone... And a little
imagination is a terrible thing.

I puzzled over that thing too. Then went back to Cincinnati Bell and
asked them what it was.
They showed me the little holes on the right side of the phone's hinge
pin. You can thread the elastic string through those holes and make
that little pillow into a fob. I tried it for a while. It's kind of
stupid. But for a klutz like me, keeping the little fob between my
fingers while holding the phone did keep me from dropping it a few
times.

It is a marketing/advertising gimick. It is a dongle to attach to the
phone on the hinge side that is not solid. Once you attach it you can
let your dongle dangle out of your pocket where your phone is carried.

That's exactly how I use mine!

The fabric cloth is quite useful for removing minor marks, however something
more heavy duty would be required for anything more.
