V551 audio muted while charging

them with a Motorola Smart Car Kit. When the phone is connected to a
charger it thinks it is connected to a car kit and all internal audio is
muted. Incoming calls do not ring and the speaker is muted so no calls can
be made (people can hear me but I can't hear them). The phone will operate
with a headset -either wired or blue tooth. Works normally while not
connected to a charger.
Motorola will not admit that this could have been caused by their car kit.
Does anyone know if this is a software problem that flashing may cure, or
has something been shorted in the phone?
