Before I bought my V635 this week, I was worried that this would be a
problem, and that I would have to remove the T-Flash card, place it in
an adapter, and put it in a PC card reader in order to get acceptable
transfer rates.
I received my phone via courier on the afternoon of Tues-6-Dec-2005, and
finally got to give it a good trial last night. I found the same
problem - copying MP3s using Mobile Phone Tools | Mobile Explorer (with
the phone in Data/Fax USB connection mode) was giving me awful transfer
rates -- specifically, it took approximately 22 minutes to transfer a
4.4MB MP3 to the phone -- 26.1 kilobits per second.
Awful!Note: MPT transferred the music to phone internal memory, not T-Flash
memory. MPT | Multimedia Studio and MPT | Mobile Explorer do not seem
to allow transferring to or from the T-Flash memory. It seems more
likely that the internal memory, or internal memory interface is slow,
than that USB is slow, considering what I discovered below.
Fortunately, the howardforums.com link above got me thinking that the
problem may only exist with the Data/Fax mode using the internal memory.
Sure enough, hooking up the phone to my PC in Memory Card USB
connection mode resulted in me being able to drag and drop an MP3 (using
Windows Explorer on the 'removable drive') to the phone (T-Flash 512MB
memory area) in 33.5 seconds for 3.7 MB -- a much better ~900 kilobits
per second.

I could probably do even better with the card adapter, but 30 seconds to
transfer a smallish song is OK for me for now.
My relevant specs for the above investigation: 1.8 GHz Pentium M IBM
ThinkPad with 512 MB RAM, running Windows XP SP2, connecting with a USB
2.0 port (via powered hub) to a SanDisk TransFlash 512 MB flash memory card.
