MaxCell 1700mAh battery

Posted: 11-15-2005, 07:08 AM
Hi,

I bought one of the MaxCell 1700mAh batteries on ebay about 3 months ago and
it seems to have completely died. I was never convinced it actually lasted
much longer than the original battery (I had to charge up the1700 every
three days at least, more often if I had bluetooth turned on), then
yesterday I had just charged it up and was sending an SMS message when the
whole phone went dead. I tried turning it on again but nothing happened. I
put the original battery back in and the phone worked again straight away.
Has this happened to anyone else (yet), that after about 3 months their 1700
battery just died?

Thanks

Eric

I've had mine for 3 months too but no problem with it dying like that. I
have noticed that it's not lasting as long as it did initially though. That
could be due to changes in my usage which I'll have to examine when I get my
next bill.

Interesting -- I was thinking about posting this morning about this same
issue. When I got mine I was getting 3+ days of "full charge", and
somewhere between the 3rd and the beginning of the 5th day the phone
would die.

I did a full charge yesterday, my alarm went off around 8am this
morning, the phone was dead (as in off) by noon.

I popped the factory battery back in for the moment, I'll try the other
one again in a couple days, but it looks like the short lifespan might
not be just me

It'll be interesting to see what happens when you try it again. I've just
tried charging up the 1700 again in the stand-alone charger, then putting it
back into the phone, and it's dead as a doornail - not a peep. Seems it's
completely snuffed it.

Try removing it from the phone for a few seconds and see if it works when
you put it back in.

I'll try that now, I won't need the phone for a few hours and I can
handle it dying tomorrow if it happens. Mine has always been charged in
the phone, never in an external charger.

A battery with a lifetime warranty? Doubtful...

I'm going through a similar deal now with a 3rd party
monster size StarTAC battery.
There is no way to know if these monster mAh ratings
are real!
Yours may say 1700, yet really be 700.
Similar with my 1400.
