Installing new Java game onto V3

Posted: 11-01-2005, 03:30 PM
Hi all,

I'm trying to install a new game on my V3 but can't figure out how to do it.
According to the manual, you "Press M > Settings > Java Settings > Java App
Loader, connect your phone to the computer when prompted." After Java
Settings though I don't get Java App Loader. Does this mean that
functionality has been disabled on my phone? (I'm on T-Mobile in the UK).

Thanks

Eric

That's exactly what it means. You can do SEEM edits to turn on the Java
App Loader or you can just load them with Bluetooth. Even though I have
the Uploader activated I still use the BT method as it's easier and
doesn't require making a jad file. Using MyBluetooth on your PC you can
drag and drop the jar file to the phone and the phone will ask if you
want to accept it then install it. I wrote a tutorial that might be
helpful. See http://brobin111.blogspot.com

Excellent, thanks for that Bruce, I'll give it a try though I think the
whole installation functionality has been disabled. The website I got the
game from also has a wap site and is set up for downloading the games
directly through the mobile phone's browser. I tried that too, and while the
download went fine, the installation failed. I'll have a look at your blog
in any event and try that.

I've had a look at your blog and all the links are dead, so rather than
spend ages trying to find all the various files I think I may bite the
bullet and finally learn how to use SEEM edits. Is there a good website that
contains a "beginner's guide" on how to use them, and what's available for
the V3?

Thanks

Eric

If you have the Widcomm Driver that came with a BT dongle that's all you
need. For SEEM edits see http://xlr8.us/hofo/ for an excellent tutorial
and also read the Noob guides at http://motomodders.net.
If you d/l a game and it doesn't work it may be that it's not compatible
with the phone. I find that about 20% of the stuff I try to install is
not compatible w/the v3.

Also, if your going to do SEEM edits I highly recommend the program
Motokit 1.06 which can be downloaded by clicking this:
http://www.kempsun.com/Motokit/motokit106.exe

When you run the program it will be in Chinese. On the menu bar click on
the 3d item from the left and select English (unless of course you also
read Chinese!). I've tried several SEEM edit programs and like this one
the best.

Also, you might want to look at Bezol's P2KTools. It lets you make
common changes like activating the Java Uploader without doing hex
edits. Just check the box and it's done. Read more here:

Right, great, getting there. Thanks for your tips Bruce, I've now managed to
get my head round SEEMS and have edited the necessary SEEM (0032_0001),
changing the setting for bit 0. After restarting the phone if I go to Java
Settings it now offers me the "Java App Loader". If I select that, it says
Connect Cable, which I do - and nothing else happens. I've got both the .jar
and the .jad files sitting on my desktop, but how are they supposed to get
from there into the phone? I've got MobilePhone Tools and tried copying the
..jar and .jad files into the phone using that but the phone won't accept the
format.

In a previous post you (Bruce) wrote "Even though I have the Uploader

install it."

I tried a while back installing BlueSoleil and using bluetooth via that (my
computer runs Win 2000) but never actually got BT to work between the PC and
the phone. I'd rather not try to go through that whole runaround again; any
tips on how to get the .jar and/or .jad files from my desktop into my phone,
given that it now runs the Java App Loader?

Thanks

Eric

I've never actually used the Uploader to do it but I believe you need a
program called Midway to do it. If you check out www.motomodders.net or
www.howardforums.com you'll find the details.
I too found Blue Soleil worthless but the Widcomm package is great.

To enable the Java App Loader you need to enable the SEEM bit. This is can
be done by using the smart clip software called SmartMoto available from
http://www.smart-clip.com/smartmoto.php This is intended to work with the
Smart Clip hardware box for phone unlocking, but it will run without the
box. The software has an option to enable the SEEM bit for the Java App
Loader under the Service tab.

To load games using a USB cable search for a program called Midway.

OK, thanks, I'll have a hunt for it.

I did a search on that but couldn't find a way of actually downloading it,
for free or otherwise. I found the site of the developers, but there was no
"download" or "buy" link. Any suggestions on where I can actually get it?!

Thanks

OK, Bruce just suggested that as well, so I'll try to find that. Thanks
again!
