Motorola Razr V3 - The truth

Posted: 10-25-2005, 09:12 PM
Ok I went ahead and bought one from T-mobile. Got a great deal and
should be getting it this week. I've read mixed reviews on it and would
like to hear actual feedback from people that own one and have for a
while.

Let me know the pro's and con's from your own experience. I dont use
cell phones for anything but calls, and plan on an occasional photo and
lots of text/email messages. Should this be a good phone for me?

Thanks for the feedback.

If you like the look and feel you'll be very pleased. It has excellent
transmit & receive capability providing a better signal in marginal
areas. There are a lot of mods you can do if you want (see
www.motomodders.net).

If you want an extended time battery I have them so let me know if you
want one. They're $24.95 for 1900mAh capacity compared to the battery
you have which is 710mAh. I also have 2 of the 1700mAh ones left on ebay
(see item #5821025203).

Thanks for the info Bruce. I checked out the site for modding, way to
much for me. Have you modded your Razr at all? If so, what have you
done?

I bought mine almost a year ago as an unlocked Cingular phone that I use
on TMobile. My first mod was to install the TMobile Flex to make it an
unlocked TMo branded phone and then I made some SEEMS changes to add
long video recording, multi-character phonebook search and unhide the
web sessions menu.

I've carried one for around a month (I think... Honestly it might be
longer, I'm losing track of time) -- I love it.

Signal reception is amazing -- It's the only phone I've seen so far that
works in my basement, GSM or other, including other 850MHz/1900MHz
capable phones on the same network.

Complaints:
The screen sometimes has a high pitched "ringing" sound. I'm fairly
sensitive to this frequency range though (I hear Palms, I can pretty
much point out which CRT monitor was left on in a computer lab of 30 of
them).

The battery life in practical use is FAR from the manufacturer's
specifications. Okay, I wasn't expecting to get over a week, but I was
hoping for more then 24 hours with the phone in it's default
configuration in an area with good signal reception. Third party
batteries seem to have helped.

You can't USB charge without installing drivers.
