I have been using the 1700mAh MaxCell battery in my v3 for 3 weeks now
and it lasts at least twice as long as the Motorola battery. I can't
speak for the the ones that are not for the v3, as discussed in the
article you refer to, but I can tell you that these do, in fact, work as
advertised. Discussions at www.howardforums.com and www.motomodders.com
echo my findings.

Beware though. I've had 2 of the 1700mAh batteries and both are not
functioning properly. Invalid battery errors and sudden swich offs of phone.
However there are many people who've had these batteries work for them, so
apparently you'll just need a bit of luck. I've switched to a 1900mAh
battery and this one works great (so far). I'm getting twice the standby
and talktimes. The price of the battery is a bargain, so even if you should
try it and it doesn't work, it's not a real lot to loose.

I'm a lucky one, on one of the 1700mAh batteries. If I leave bluetooth
on and talk on the phone my normal amount it lasts 3.5 days. The stock
Motorola battery turned off between hour 24 and hour 25.

I haven't done any testing under lower load, Bluetooth off, shorter
backlight settings, etc. I don't really care about how the battery
performs under these conditions because I'd never use my phone like
that.
