V300 Take photo with screen closed?

portrait, "activate the camera, close the flip, use the mirror to aim
the camera lens, then press the smart key to take a photo."
Whenever I try this the camera shuts down when I close the flip and I
can't take a picture. Is there a setting I need to change to make this
work?
