Mobile Phone Tools - lots of frustration....

Posted: 09-09-2005, 07:57 PM
I hope someone can help. I just got a new Moto E815 to upgrade my wife's
old T730. I bought a copy of MPT and the cable. I was able to get a
connection to her old T730 to copy off her address book into MPT.

When I try to connect the E815 I can not get MPT to recognize the phone. I
am trying to set up a second profile (the first for the T730; second for the
E815.) I hear my PC make the little bing-bong sound when a USB device is
attached, so I assume I am making a connection to the PC just fine. When I
go into the process to detect the phone, the progress bar moves across and
then eventually comes back with a message about not being able to find the
phone.

Are there drivers that I need to install? This is really puzzling and
frustrating.
Thanks in advance!
Keith

Does the bing-bong occur when you connect the phone, or other devices?

With MPT, the latest release 3.25b, is not available anywhere except Live
Update. Without connecting you phone, start MPT, which will complain about
not having a phone. Cancel that, and go to setup-LiveUpdate to get the
most recent version. Then try again.

You might have some leftover drivers in place from Windows trying to
recognize the phone. You might view the different pages in my earlier
posting to see which ones apply to you.

Clarence,

My PC makes the "bing-bong" whenever I plug in any USB device. (XP default,
I assume.)

As I mentioned in my original posting, I already have ver 3.25b, which I
understand to be the latest available version. I am still unable to get MPT
to recognize the phone. It picks up my old T730, but for some reason, it
will not recognize this phone.

Anyone have any suggestions? Are there drivers I should install?

Thanks, Keith

I saw the 3.25b in a different posting, after I had answered this posting
;-)

I would visit the pages I reference in my earlier posting. There is an
example of how to remove "hidden" devices. MPT doesn't like to use the
default Windows drivers. Try that, then plug in the phone after MPT is
started. In MPT F12 will show the communications with the phone. F6 will
let you change the modem com port it is trying to use (only 1-9 are viable,
MPT won't use 10+). Start,ControlPanel,phone-and-modem should let you run
a diagnostic on the modem. This query needs to work in order for MPT to
use the serial port. MPT communicates in "AT-mode" as if the phone were a
modem, except for Multi-Media Studio.

It's possible that you have plugged the T730 into various USB ports, and
the new phone into various USB ports, each of which takes up a comm port
number. I had a USB cable v220, and now I have a Bluetooth V551. The v220
is comm5 (makes sense, above the "standard" comm ports). The V551 is com7,
and both phones work with MPT, although I did have trouble getting started.

Hope this can be of some help..

Does the phone have memory card capabilities?

I recently tried to connect my E398 to the PC and it would not see it.
I found that the USB connection settings on the phone were set to memory
card instead of Fax/Data.

I believe this setting should be on Fax/Data to communicate correctly. After
I changed this, the computer saw it immediately.
