Posted: 09-09-2005, 07:37 AM
I have contacted Cingular and others trying to get info. on how I will
get firmware upgrades for my new phone. No one at Cingular seems to
know what I am talking about. every one at verizon is very
knowledgeable of firmware up grades.

You sound like you mean OTA (over the air updates) not firmware updates
It's not possible to update firmware OTA. The only reason you woul
ask for an OTA update from cingular would be of you might want
color/network change. Don't bother asking for any other reason, the
make no difference.

Cingular does not do repairs or firmware upgrades. If you want a firmware
upgrade, call Motorola and get an RMA under warranty. If there is a
legitimate performance issue that new firmware fixes (such as the well
publicized battery life problem with the V551) they will update the phone
for free.

If you have the USB cable which normally is bundeled with it, then have
a look at www.motox.us where you find flash tools and newer flashed.

I have flashed at least five times, have no built in restrictions now,
can MAKE little videos and have 2 Megabyte more of free memory.
But you MAY lose warranty.

I have the same experience with www.motox.us and www.motomodders.net. I
have re-flashed my phone 4 times and get the same results as Wolfgang. But,
you have to be careful about re-flashing. Read the FAQs and take it 1 step
at a time or you might lose your phone.
