Unlocking V550

My phone has recently died on me . & someone has offered me their 'old'
Motorola V550 that was previously used on a Vodaphone contract.
As a newbie to all this stuff, could someone advise me the best / easiest
way of getting the phone unlocked so I can use my existing PAYG Sim in it.
