How to I get MPT to convert MP3,Wav,etc. -> my cell format?

Once done it'll load it to the phone and you're done. For wav to mp3 conversion there are bunch of free programs. I get the message "Failed to create file" . When I highlight a large selection of the song and click on the "Remove Selection" icon. It won't do that either. I'm just talking about MP3 forget about wav files.
