V180 unreliable on Cingular

It seems like my V180 is a piece of crap! I drop calls all the time
even when showing all signal bars, get VM indicator hours after
message left, goes to VM without ringing for no reason. Cingular is
sending me a new one but others with the V180 have same problems. Any
insight? any way to fix? software upgrade? HELP
