POP3/IMAP client on Motorola v330 - does it exist?

Posted: 08-28-2005, 12:53 AM

I've been looking at a v330 from T-Mobile, as the price on it is now
free after rebates. Looking at specs on websites, it seems that there
is a POP3 and IMAP mail client built into the phone. The salesperson
at T-Mobile didn't have a working model to show me this afternoon, but
he did say that if I had the v330, I would need only the T-Mobile Web
service ($5.99/mo), not the T-Mobile Internet service (19.99/mo) to
use WAP browsing and the built-in e-mail client. Can anyone confirm
that this is true? Is there another phone that supports a built-in
e-mail client and bluetooth without going to a Blackberry?

Thanks!

Chris,

I've got a V330 on T-Mobile and have the T-Mobile Web service. I use it to
check two POP e-mail accounts I have. Works fine. E-mail was easy to set
up using the My.T-Mobile web site. WAP works ok considering it's WAP and
WAP browsing is pretty weak compared to the normal web. But the phone is
great. No complaints.........

You could also install a Java application to do mail. And if you feel
like hacking the phone, there's a 'seem edit' that can be applied to
enable the built-in POP3/IMAP/SMTP client that T-Mobile disables. The
$5.99 plan is sufficient for mail.

I just got the V330 and am taking the 14 days to see if it will be an
acceptable substitute for the most critical things I use my Treo for
(got tired of its bulk and monthly cost). Since the Treo's Palm-based,
I don't have any experience finding and installing Java apps. Any tips
on where to find them? And if I find a 3rd-part Java e-mail client to
check my pop3 accounts, will I need to pay $5.99/mo to T-Mobile? I'll
be on the prepaid plan.

Thanks!
