Bluetooth on or off?

Posted: 05-25-2005, 07:45 PM

I have a V551 and a Palm T5. On the palm forum, they say that havin
bluetooth on does not effect the battery life until you actually ar
using it.

Is this the same with the V551? It's annoying to have to turn it on an
off each time you need to use it

Very good question. I also have a V551 and have heard it uses power i
you leave it on. But like you, I find going through the menus to tur
it on or off is very annoying.
Is there a way to set up a hot key?

Yes, just set the power on/off page as a shortcut.

The BT spec for a headset on the 551 allows the BT interface to stay
awake for a few minutes after use, but BT nods off after that. So, it
depends on how anal one wants to be. Personally, I don't worry about
such a low power device for those few minutes.

The Bluetooth draws about 40mA when it is turned on, if you are using it or
not.
It will put a major drain on the battery when it is turned on.

My BT is mostly on, because of my BT headset, even when I do not use it, I
do not notice a difference in batt drain. It has gone as long as 3 days
before needing a charge, with BT on, but I usually just plop it on my
desktop charger every night.

Same here. I'm in and out of my car all day long. When I'm in the
car, I put my phone on my motorola car charger/speaker.
Phone rarely ever goes below 1/2 charge

So how do shortcuts work? I noticed on my V330 that you can assign a voice
tag to a shortcut, but there is no info in the manual on how you actually
invoke the shortcut.

Press the "menu" button followed by the button programmed. I push Menu-9
to go to the BT power page.
