You'll need the cable and MPT software or you can get a BT dongle for
your PC for under $20 on ebay.

Also needed is a USB 2.0 connection. That's what tech support told me.

Again, not true. USB 1.1 works just fine on both my PCs. Full MPT
functionality and charging - no problems.

Well, motorola tech support and I were wrong, as you said. But you
won't be able to get MPT (mobile phonetools) to work until you get a
push signal from your carrier to activate the data portion of your
service (on the phone this shows as an insignia of 3 overlapping boxes
to the right of the signal strength bars). You also need to install
the software to be able to charge the phone via USB, regardless. Also
of note is that MPT sucks even after you get it to work (buggy in so
many ways). Will be trying DataPilot next.

You're the first person here who has reported needing carrier
participation to make MPT work. While it may have been true for you,
that appears to be the exception rather than the rule and may specific
to your carrier/phone combo. Both my v600 (bought in Kong Kong) and my
Razr v3 (US model) worked with MPT right out of the box. No carrier
"push signal" required. MPT is indeed buggy but I do like it better than
Data Pilot. I didn't like ver. 2 of MPT so I bought DataPilot. Once
ver. 3 of MPT was released, I decided I like that better.
