Law of supply and demand. The earlier adopters have now overpaid, and
prices are coming down. As I predicted and still predict, it will be
free with contract by the time it is a year old.

That's pretty much always the case with new phones - same as with the
v600 and others. Nonetheless, I still don't feel that I overpaid by
getting an unlocked one for $585 last November. Even at the new $190
price I'd have to either pay $200 to dump T-Mo (which I prefer over
Cingular) or $390 for the phone plus $40 to unlock it. So at most, in my
situation at least, I paid $155 for being an early adopter. Like you, I
knew that the price would tumble within months but since I knew T-Mo
wouldn't offer it any time soon the premium was worth it to me. If T-Mo
did offer it I might have waited a bit longer.

Man, nice deal....I wish Amazon would write Cingular contacts in my area.
For some reason, it's not available in my zip.

I got a Black Razr for 99 buck at bestbuy, was just an add a line not
a new contract.

I would bet 10 to 1 that you signed a new contract for that line you
added, whether you were told about it or not. Best Buy is one of the
places where sales people are often as clueless as it gets (or pretend to
be). They just tell you, yeah sure, just sign here, here, and over there
and you got your shiny new phone... One of the places you sign is a
contract for the new line.

Don't know about Cingular, but with t-mobile if you have a family plan-
each line has it's own contract and they may not end on the same date. So
even if your main line contract expires soon (or has already), you'll
still be under contract on that other line you added until a year or two
(depending on what you signed) from the date you bought it.

Yeah, Cingular is like that, too. I have only my last added line left on my
contract, so I'm effectively also under contract, I guess.
