V620

Posted: 03-01-2005, 05:15 PM
The V620 seems like a real nice "step up" from the V600 which I have now,
but doesn't seem to be getting much discussion or 'play' from Motorola
users - ??

Has the release of the V3 simply overshadowed the 620 or is there some major
problem with the 620?

All opinions welcomed...

Thanks.

John

I think you're probably right on the V3 overshadowing it and , of course,
they have upgraded again (V635?).
I have a V3, my wife a V620.

Pros of V620
- Better camera
- Better Screen res
- Better reception
- Cheap!
- Nice quality "chunky" feel
- Probably better battery life but not much in it
- genuinely small
Cons
- External antenna (killed it for me)
- Fiddly keyboard

Pros of V3
-Big screen
-big keyboard
-slim
-sex appeal
-external screen
Cons
-its actually quite big
-keyboard feels odd to use
-still very expensive

Otherwise they are the same. I hate the phonebook having come from SE but
otherwise it's great

Here is a v600 to v620 (or even v3) issue:

All three models offer phonebooks capable of associating an image with
each phone number. Setting up the associations is a labor-intensive
process.

Is there a way to copy the phonebook from say a v600 to a v620 AND
preserve the image associations? MPT does not appear to offer a solution.

Great, thanks for the info -

I'm curious as to your opinion (or anyone in the group) of Motorola's
'reasoning' for bringing out so many new, but very similar phones at the
same time?

Doing some side by side comparisons - there's very little difference in most
of the "new" models one from the other.

Gripe: For experienced cell users, a phones 'features' will speak for
itself - however for people new to cell phones having so many phones dumped
on the market at the same time, all with basically the same features, will
make the buying selection very confusing.

Or was that the purpose?

There's nothing wrong with the V620. As you say, it is a step up from a
V600 - brighter screen, improved software (some say better sound quality).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the V620 was a "Euro" phone while the V600 was
the "American" version. Most US carriers jumped from the V600 to the V3 or
the V551.

I've had my V620 for about 5 - 6 months and have had no problems whatsoever.
I bought it because I read about some V600 concerns that the V620
eliminated. Besides, it looks way better all black! The point is that
phone choices and upgrades change so rapidly you will likely never have the
"right" phone.

P.S. I may have to look at the V635 if and when it's available. Right now
the price is too high.

I talked to Motorola Support last week about the 620 and was told it was
released as a EURO (European) Quad Band phone (my screens were in German
when I got it) and they have no scheduled American release date.

Glad I got mine when I did... )

Your right, my 600 has been (and is - I won't get rid of it) a great phone,
but the 620 has many new features (voice memo, video capture, multiple
numbers for phone book entries, more/etc...) and fixed all the nagging
little 600's 'bugs'...

It's a keeper.
