Motorola v600 quad-band or tri-band?

Posted: 01-18-2005, 03:57 AM
Hi,

I bought a motorola v600 in september 2004 from t-mobile. At that time,
I am almost sure it was listed as a quad-band phone (850/900/1800/1900
Mhz) both on cnet and t-mobile's website. Anyway, after I bought the
phone I started having problems and T-mobile replaced the defective
phone. Everything is normal up to this point.

However, I just realized that the new phone they sent is tri-band. Like
I said, I am almost sure the phone I bought 4 months ago was a
quad-band, but I cannot verify since I sent the old one back and
t-mobile's website has changed. Cnet still lists this phone as a
quad-band phone.

Can someone please tell me whether this phone is originally a quad-band
or a tri-band?

Thanks,
Ilker

Motorola designed, manufactures and markets the v600 as a quad-band phone.
Cingular and most of the world sells it has a quad-band phone. T-mobile's
custom software(flex) for the v600 disables the 850mhz because T-mobile
doesn't use that freq anywhere, but you can re-enable it if you want but it
doesn't really help you, and what do you care anyway?

What if he's roaming in an area that's better served by 850? What if
wants to sell the phone someday? What if he wants to switch to Cingular
when he gets fed up with T-Mo? If he bought a quad band phone (which he
did) he should get a quad band phone.

TigerTiger, thanks for the information.

Granted, I will not need the 850 unless I change my carrier. But I like
the flexibility neverthless. That was actually one of my decision
factors.

I also didn't like the way t-mobile crippled my phone without my
consent (deliberately or not). I will call cust. service and see where
that takes me.

Thanks,
Ilker

On T-Mobile's web site, it is listed as a tri-band phone.

So... they did nothing wrong.

Actually, someday you might need 850.
1900mhz isn't everywhere in the USA. You could be roaming where only 850 is
available and have to dial 911.

With 850 disabled by Tmobile, you can't call for help.

Tmobile isn't misleading you with their advertising but they are taking away
your ability to call for help in certain areas. Not cool!
