Which phone?

Posted: 12-09-2004, 03:42 AM
I am a Nokia user and am considering switching to Motorola when I update my
Cingular plan. I have several questions...

-Which phone has the reputation for the best reception, v180, v220, or v400?

-Do all three of the above have sufficient volume? (I'm looking to get one
for my 70-something parents.)

-Is one of the above easier to use, in routine stuff like searching for and
dialing?

-I'm looking at the v551 for myself...does this use the same chargers as the
above models?

Thanks for your help!
John

I have the V400 and V180 and I had to buy a new Hands free for the Car I
almost sent it back and took the V400 but I didnt
the thing that my Father (68) has troubles with is my 2 phones are hard for
him to dial he complains that the keys are hard to push and he cannot see
the screen
the V400 uses the same charger as the V600 T720 and the V66 I think that the
V551 uses this one too
the V180 uses the same one as the 220 all of these phones are loud I have a
hearing loss in both ears

I just got the V551 after having an old Nokia was one step above Agent
Smart's shoe phone. One thing that I really like about the 551 is the
voice dial, something I had never thought about before. Just press a
button and say a name and it dials. That has to be great for the OP's
dad. I don't know if the other phones have that, or if all phones have
that now, but how can dialing be any easier?

He might need help setting up the phone book but once that is done,
call away.

Absolutely, positively not. In one side-by-side test, the 551 had 4
bars and was perfectly usable, while a 180 put in the same spot had no
service. Also the 180 is much too hot for the normal handsfree - my
wife had to turn the boom mike away from her mouth to stop distorting.
(Needless to say, the phone was returned.)

Both about the same - fair to good.

Yes, even the 180 does. That's about the only good thing about it,
though.

All the Motorolas are pretty much the same, as far as the menu and
phonebook.

No. The 551 charges through the data/charger/everything port on the
bottom. The 180 charges through a little coaxial plug on the bottom.
The 220 and 400 charge like the 551, as far as I recall.
