SIM card faq and question about multiple phone #'s on same phone ie V600

Posted: 12-03-2004, 07:39 PM
Is there a FAQ on these SIM cards used for GSM cell phones? My main
concern is that I am trying to combine two ATT wireless #'s on to one
cell phone device, the Motorola V600. Motorola tech support says that
it will support up to three #'s but if I talk to anyone at ATT
wireless, either they are clueless or say that I need an additional
SIM card and I would have to swap them out. Does anyone have the
answer here?

Thanks...

When I was in Singapore last summer lots of stores were selling adapters
that hold up to 6 SIMs and plug into the existing SIM slot. These usually
come with a new battery door to hold the adapter between the battery and
slightly thicker door.

one phone number per SIM cards is all that is allowed so you must
swap out SIM card to use the same phone

Okay,

So can someone explain to me why the phone has the ability to have up
to three phone #'s. If you look at the "My Tele Numbers" menu, you will
see three entries with "my Mobile #" as the first entry which is the
cellular # you have and the other entries blank. Motorola says it can
hold three #'s so why is noone taking advantage of this? I assume that
there are a significant # of people who have either various personal
and or business accounts with the same carrier..

Presumably because it's a big hassle (cost and support) for the carrier.

Multiple SIMs give you accounts with multiple carriers. You can have
multiple numbers with a single carrier with one SIM (if the carrier
implements it).
