Where can I unlock t720?

I have a motorola T720(At&T) and out of contract as of yesterday.
Need to unlock it to use T-mobile network.
I called and visited a few stores to unlock it and some store said it
is impossible to unlock motorola and others said leave phone a couple
of day and pick it up later.
And there are some guys who can(they claim) unlock any phone on ebay.
My concern is is it ok or safe to send my phone away?
I know I need to take out my sim card but I do not know it is safe or
not.
I don't have to worry about cloning or something?
