V60s antenna question

Posted: 10-23-2004, 04:42 AM
I have a V60s with the "stubby" antenna, not extendable.
Since we live in a "fringe" area, I would like to change the
antenna to the V60c CDMA retractable antenna (available from Radio
Shack). I have been told by different Verizon and Radio Shack reps
that

a) the antenna will work fine, both have the same thread mounts.

b) the antenna will hamper the phone's ability to receive calls.

A friend of mine has an older 270c with the retractable antenna
(from what I understand, the V60 and the 270c are virtually the same
phones) and they have service in places where my V60s wouldn't even
think of making or taking a call.

I put the antenna on the phone just to see and it usually gives one
bar more signal strength with the retractable antenna vs the stubby
one. I have yet to make a call.

Anyone have any take on this one?

from what i read on howardforums.com, that a v60i or v60c antenna on a v60s
does improve reception.
i have yet to try it. reason being is that i once had a v60i and the antenna
base ed three times. i kindda
like the v60s stubby antenna, its very stable and i still get great
reception.

I did this to mine and it does make a small difference, but it was
enough to take me out of the "fringe"
