V505 Battery Issue

Posted: 09-29-2004, 02:46 AM

In the 2 days that it took me to finally decide to take the GSM
plunge, the Motorola phone offered by ATT changed from the V600 to
the V505. As much as the salesperson tried to *dance* she could not
give me a decent explanation as to the difference in the two phones.
Oh well. I went to GSM primarily because of the international
travel that I do and the first real test will be from China at the end
of October.

But, I'm having real problems with keeping the battery charged on this
pup. I can only get about 3 days of standby and maybe a full hour of
talking before the battery goes "low." Anyone else having this
issue and is there a way to get a realistic battery life from this
phone?

I switched from my Nokia 3200 to the V505 and yes the battery is not as
great as the Nokia but I've gotten 6 days of standby and over 3+ hours of
talk time from my V505. By the way the V600 had many software issues when
it was 1st released you made the right choice to get the V505 over the V600

The V505 is a new phone. Given Motorola's history for buggy first
releases, I'd have every reason to expect the V505 to be problematic too,
until the firmware is thoroughly debugged. For the V600 that took about a
year! If the V505 shares enough of the "triplets" code that is used in the
V300/400/500/600, then perhaps it will benefit from that year of tweaking
.... but who knows.

Hi,

I'm from Europe and we don't know the V505 overhere but seeing the number, I
guess it has a bit less features than the V600 (reading video files and some
gadgets) and the V5XX form factor.

Concerning the battery, it's the big handycap of these phones.
I've got my V500 (flashed to V600) for a couple of months now and can't get
any further than three days with something like 30-45 min. of calls a day.

You indicate less call time and there's two things I guess that matter.
First your battery is new so it will take a couple of charges before it
comes to maximum performance.

The other point is to activate the battery save feature (Settings -> Initial
Setup).
On top of that you might want to reduce the backlight timing (same menu)
that is also quite efficient to get a bit further.

Finally... keep your charger at hand because these V5XX/V6XX are heavy
drinkers ;-)

Inspite of what Mike S. says (real usefull answer to your question by the
way) I've had no problems with either of the software I installed. The phone
just works and does what it has to do..

Bye from France,

Ton
