Antenna Grid

The AT&T rep is an idiot. He must have worked at Radio Shack first to
come up with that line of crap. If these things really do work all they
do is make a better RF ground and that would help the signal but being
sandwiched between the phone and the battery I don't know for sure.

I have one (it came free with my data cable) and I can't really say if
it helps or if it just my mind playing tricks on me.

Bottom line... If it's free why not. If you have to pay don't bother.
