I called Alltel and asked them about using this phone on Alltel and they
told me that this phone was PCS programmable and could not be used on their
network.
the seller on eBay shows it Alltel compatible GSM 1900. am I missing
something or is the a mistake.
Next question how good of a phone is this.?

The V3682 is a GSM phone and is NOT compatible with alltel's CDMA network so
whoever is selling this is mistaken.

IF you like the look of this phone you should look for a V8160 which would
be compatible with Alltel's network(at least in the area's with 800mhz
digital and analog signal), but whether they would activate it or not is
another story.

There are reviews for both the v3682 and v8160 on www.epinions.com, just
type the model number in the search box.

Alltel around here is CDMA 800 MHz amps, 800 cdma, 1900 cdma,
I want something close to what I have now. (Startac 7868) but only a little
better.
I don't like the v60 series. and the t720 has too many bugs for me and is
still way to expensive.

Why do you not like the v60?. I had the original v60c on Alltel and loved
it! (Paid a crapload for it also!) It had great reception and I hardly ever
dropped a call.
I recently switched to another provider but there are some days that I miss
my v60. Have you seen the new Startac 2004? Right now its only available
overseas but it may find its way to these shores later in the year.

I have several friends who have v60's and they are piece's of crap. one has
went through 3 or phones in the last year one has to send his v60x in and
have it reprogrammed because of a software and a hardware problem. and
ALLTEL won't give him a loaner. he bought a 7868w off eBay just to tide him
over until his gets back as they told him it would be gone for 4 to 6 weeks.
No I haven't seen the new startac 2004.. where can I see a pic and get the
specs at.??
what do you know about the Motorola timeport 270 series.
I'm kinda leaning towards something with Bluetooth if possible.

I had heard that the v60x was particularly bad. The original v60c was much
better.

You can see a special black and 18k gold version of the startac 2004 here
http://tinyurl.com/2uhq4
and the silver version here http://tinyurl.com/3fv7n

Some specs can be seen here. http://tinyurl.com/328t5

Only available in Korea for now but it looks nice, but a little pricey as an
import but supposedly it may make it
here eventually

My father has a 270c because it was the only phone his bad ears could
actually hear. I set it up for him and the menus
are just like the v60. But I have very little experience in using it. He
hasn't complained about it and he doesn't use bluetooth.

Reviews for 270 here. http://tinyurl.com/34z3j

dam I like the new star tac.. but your right that's way to much to pay for a
phone.. do you know when it might be coming out here.?
as for the 270 I'm looking at one now that I like on eBay but there are a
few questions about 270s I'm still concerned about.
