new phone suggestions

Posted: 05-15-2004, 12:06 AM
Hey guys it looks like I might be in need of a new phone.
at the moment I have a Star Tac 7868W, I know its old and all that but it
works well and I have been pleased with it but last week I dropped in a sink
with water in it. the phone still works but it has a charging problem. won't
charge the battery fully now.
anyway I am probably am going to need a new phone for the All Tell Network.
and no I don't want to mess with a unlocked phone at all tell isn't really
to keen on reprogramming a phone for us around here.
anyone know if All Tell is GSM yet?
any suggestions for a new phone I'm going to get it off E-bay and have it
turned on using my old number.
I would like a new phone with a nice display and a few games but I don't
want one of the new phones that has problems like a the V.60 series. already
seen that and don't want to go there. and I have also looked at the 720
series and I'm not really impressed with it either. unless it was a really
good deal.
so keep in mind that I don't want to spend a fortune on a new phone I just
want one that works and will do it's job like my old 7868W.

The charging problem on your 7868 is most likely due to water in the
battery. A new battery may well solve your problem.

tried that already it seemed to help alittle but it is still acting weird
it's holding a charge better now. but it will drop from a full charge on
the battery meter to the middle bar in about 10 mins. of talking after that
you can run it for about 30 to 50 minutes before it will tell you the
battery is low. and this battery is a 1100 mh cdma battery.
any comments on the V60's?

the V60 is a good phone albeit behind the curve on technology. I had a
v60 for the last couple of years and was quite content with it. I got a
v600 for my birthday and I like that even better. Both have better
battery life than the StarTAC.

ahh nice phone, but I don't think I could use that phone on Alltel.
wish I could though that is a nice phone you've got there, expensive but
nice.
have you ever heard of a v66.?

well I have several friends who have V60's and have had nothing but trouble.
one is on his 6th or 7th I think V60. started with a C or I version I think
he's about ready to get a 7868W like mine because it works, and when his V60
is gone to Motorola for repairs he won't have to use the loaner phone.
affectionately known as the brick.

I've heard it many times... the Startac has finally died. If you're no
interested in renewing and purchasing a new phone from Alltel, then
would look for a used V60i. I would NOT reccommend going with th
current V60x.

If you would like to purchase an upgrade, and you like Motorola,
would go with the Motorola t720.

Alltel is NOT GSM yet, nor will it be anywhere in the near future.
Alltel is CDMA 800/1900 analog 800.

Thanks!
