ARGENTINA???

Posted: 03-06-2004, 10:31 PM
Going to Buenos Aires (also may have a brief stop in Iguazu and in Colonia
Uraguay) later this month. Can someone tell me whether you have had success
with coverage with a T-Mobile triband phone? Seems from the t-mobile
website that they do have a roaming arrangement in Argentina, but someone
from where I work told me that tri-band phones don't work there and that
they have their own system down there (the way the Japanese do).

Anyway, assistance would be appreciated. I have a Motorola V300 (locked), a
V60 unlocked, and also a Verizon CDMA (that worked well in Mexico). I'm
wondering what to bring with me to Argentina. I've been told that,
notwithstanding the cheap hotel rates because of the strong dollar, they
charge a fortune for telephone calls in the hotels, so I want my mobile to
work.

Argentina has CDMA, GSM, and TDMA networks. No proprietary system. Make sure
that you get your account enabled for international roaming. Bring the
unlocked GSM phone too.

Please see http://earthroam.com and

Argentina has TDMA, CDMA, and GSM networks. Verizon does not support roaming
in Argentina, Sprint does. You might call Verizon to confirm this, since it
seems odd, but Verizon has no CDMA roaming in many countries with CDMA
networks.

Your best bet is probably to take along an unlocked GSM phone, and a TDMA
phone.
