Motorola v400 International Use
Posts: n/a use on a trip to Europe in April. What are my options for making sure the phone will work in Europe? Also, interested in best value proposition in terms of cost and reliability. I've not been able to get consistent responses from Cingular.  Responses to "Motorola v400 International Use"

Posts: n/a Re: Motorola v400 International Use just ask Cingular to turn on International Roaming. Its usually no charge.Check it on their web site about an hour after they turn it, assuming you have a web account. Be sure your phone is set to AUTOMATIC in Menu/Initial Setup/Network/Network Setup. Once you power up your phone in another country, it may take up to 5 minutes before the local operator name appears in the blank spot where Cingular name usually appears, but it will. You will pay for incoming calls at whatever rates the local network oper charges. Of course outgoing calls too. In terms of cost, the best thing would be to get the V400 unlocked (there are services that will do this for $30 if Cingular won't). Then use prepaid. I.e. sign up with Hop Mobile for prepaid, or buy prepaid SIM cards once you get there. See http://earthroam.com
