Trying to connect laptop to the internet with motorola A835

I wonder if anyone can help me.

I have been trying to connect a laptop to the internet using a
Motorola A835 mobile and USB cable.

I set up the PhoneTools software, configured the phone as a USB modem.

I have created a dialup connection using the 'USB modem'

When I dial, the phone number appears on the phones screen but almost
immediately I get an error message to the effect that the other
computer did not respond.

Does anyone know if this is possible (later I need to connect it via
bluetooth, but was trying to get it to work with the cable first)

I also clicked the 'Internet' icon on the phone image that appears on
the desktop with this software, this connected by GPRS, however I
could not browse the net on the laptop.

Any help would be much appreciated
