Why Is The Speaker On The Back Of The New Falcon Series Phones?

Posted: 02-10-2004, 09:09 PM
I don't understand why Motorola would put a speaker on the back of a phone. Why would you want everyone to hear your conversation better than you?

I have a i85s and the speaker is on the front of the phone, where it should be. The audio quality is great, and in public environments I turn the volume down and I hold the phone close to my ear so other people can't hear as well.

My friend is a new Nextel subscriber and got a couple i205 phones. I have tried them out and I really dislike them. The speaker is on the BACK of the phone for some reason, and if I use his phone and try to turn it down and listen, it doesn't work well unless I hold the phone backwards. Who's the Einstein that thought that one up? When I use his phone, I feel like I'm broadcasting my conversation to everyone.

I've always loved Motorola products, but lately they've been doing some pretty wacky stuff, like putting the PTT button on the front of talkie-talkies instead of on the side, and putting speakers on the back of phones instead of on the front. I can only wonder what they may do next...

Try turning the phone so the back faces you.

I agree. I have the i530 flip phone w/ speaker in back. I prefer to use the
phone closed with DC and after dialing cell number, closed also....unless of
course I'm in a public setting that requires common sense in which case I go
"earpiece". I'm not sure exactly of the internal configuration of the
microphone.....but it seems to work real well for me by just speaking into
the external "speaker". For my use and the configuration of the i530 it
works great.
