V500 to V600 Flex?

I understand what firmware means, but what does 'flex' or 'generic flex'
mean? Is this something unique to Motorola phones? And how do you 'flex' a
phone?

Think of firmware as like the BIOS on a computer. Think of FLEX as
the OS and bundled applications, like Windows or OSX on a computer.
