you have to make one when the computer and phone find each other it asks you
to make a password so if the computer was looking for the phone and then
finds it it asks to make a password on the computer and then u must enter it
in the phone as well... or vice versa

Please could you elaborate on this? I got a Bluetooth dongle for my machine
this morning, but it doesn't ask for any pins or passwords?

You're misinterpreting the request. It's not asking you to enter a
pre-existing password, it's asking you to set a password. And it has to be
numeric bacause the phone's gonna ask you 2 seconds later to enter the same
password using the handset's keypad. Then they're paired and you're off.
Next time you link, no password shennanigan's is necessary - it's automatic
