TrueSync software: "Phone not found"

Posted: 01-10-2004, 04:54 PM
I got the TS 3.1 software installed, and now when I hook my serial cable to
the phone and try and acquire it, I get many beeps from the phone but then
it gives up saying "The phone was not found." Googling didn't give me much
useful information.

Any ideas?

I have sometimes had to, assuming Windows and not Mac, use Device
Manager to locate the port used by the c-phone and then manually tell
TrueSync where it was. Forget the entire process, but it worked, assuming I
had the correct TrueSync for the phone.

I also seem to recall needing an update from the 3.1 CD to getting it to
work with my T720. I also never was able to get a 1x connection with the
serial cables, I had to use the USB cable. The fact that the phone beeps,
though, means it should work.

One other thing that irked is that Motorola never bothered to get the
phone driver signed for XP, but it does seem to work without issue.

Good luck, hope that helped a bit.

Sorry, yes it's Win2k, TrueSync 3.1, trying to talk to a ST7868W.

Great. I have the serial cable, so it sounds like the next step is
simply to go out and buy the USB kit if I want to do it.

Not even sure it's worth the trouble at this point.

At the very least, it'll keep me from wasting much more time. And that's
important too. LOL

Actually, I'm not sure if TrueSync 3.1 supports the StarTac. Thinks got
confusing for me as there have been StarTacs, V60's, T270, T280 and T720's
in the household. I can't use the 3.1.49 version with the StarTac. The 3.1
version on the CD needed an update to 3.1.49 to get it to work with the
T720, but I can't remember if 3.1 supported the StarTac or not. The 3.1
version dumped the TrueSync desktop.

I did leave the version that I know works with the StarTac on my wife's
PC and the TrueSync version is 1.0.1.31. The TrueSync desktop is 2.02.

It is really irritating that Motorola seems to be forcing you to use a
different version for each generation of phone. That's why the StarTacs are
getting phased out and replaced with the other ones as they will all work
with the version of TrueSync I have on my PC and I am the one who has to
deal with this stuff.

You may need to track down an older version of TrueSync.

Or something entirely unlike TrueSync.

I found this -- a GPLed utility for Linux that lets you talk to StarTacs.
And there's a bunch of useful info there too.
