FAXING using a v60: anyone know how?

Posted: 10-24-2003, 08:21 AM
hey people-in-the-know:

i've got a v60 that allegedly can send / receive faxes. question is:
how?!? i've got a USB cable and windows says it recognizes the v60 as a
modem, and all the diagnostics come out great. but trying to use it in
Winfax PRO is not working out ...

can someone help me? or maybe direct me to some on-line resources?

thanks!

Do you have T-Mobile? I have T-Mobile, and the Motorola T722i and the
USB cable. In T-Mobile, to use the Motorola T722i as a fax modem, I
needed to subscribe to CSD (circuit switched data) for additional
$10/month. They give you a fax number, so you can hook up your cell
phone to an actual fax machine. I do not have a fax machine, but I
still needed to subscribe to CSD in order to use my cell phone as a fax
modem. Now, I can connect my cell phone to my computer and send faxes.

i'm on TelusMobility, on the left coast of canada. don't have T-Mobile.
never heard of CSD subscription ... i have a USB cable that my v60 is
hooked up to. windows XP recognizes it as a modem, all the diagnostics
work. but then when it comes to sending and receiving faxes in WinFax
Pro i get error messages related to com13.

what kind of software are you using on your computer?

the CSR told me that i need to connect to the internet with my v60
before i can send and receive faxes? he didn't know much more than that
....

If you're connected to the internet via your cell phone, then the line
is busy, so how can another (fax) call be made?!
If you make a phone call, then it's a voice connection.
If you connect to the internet, then it's a data connection.
If you want to fax, then it's a different kind of connection.
I see that your phone is fax-capable, but does Telus Mobility allow fax
calls?
I have both Windows XP and Windows 2000, and I use the default fax
software that's part of Windows. When I choose print from MS Word, I'm
presented with an option to select an actual printer or a fax. It's
that easy, but I had to subscribe to CSD to allow fax calls.

Is your USB port shadowed to COM13? Or is it shadowed to some other
port and WinFax thinks the modem you want it to use is on COM13?

You should be able to call a fax machine, or have one call you, and
transfer faxes. (I've never tried it, but you should be able to.)
