New Housing for ST7867W?

Posted: 09-11-2003, 04:06 PM
Hi Everybody,

I really really want to keep my moto sprint PCS wireless web enabled
ST7867W, but the housing, hinge, & (I suspect) ribbon cable are shot.

I called & emailed everybody I could think of, even some folks that
seem to deal with moto repairs on this group, and haven't got any
response.

Any suggestions on how to get the housing, hinge, & ribbon cable
replaced?

Thanks!

It's probably cheaper to buy one off ebay than to buy genuine, new
Moto replacement parts from some dealer. That's an old phone. Not
sure if you'll have any luck with parts. If you're patient, you can
get one for $20+shipping on ebay, then take the housing and cables,
thereby keeping your known good internals. Probably with an extra
battery, desktop charger, and leather case too. Ebay has some amazing
deals on older, unwanted phones.

You certainly aren't caught up in the frenzy of having the latest gee
whiz phone. But at the least, a larger screen would be nice. I'm
like you, though, being satisfied with an older but great phone. I
have 4 Moto P280's, having one of if not the best combo of RF/voice in
a GSM phone, with a massive 7 line screen too. The ST7867W is reputed
to have perhaps the best combo of RF and voice quality of any CDMA
phone. Moto really made some gems.

One more question: where should I take my phone(s) to get the
cases/hinges/cables switched?

Oh, and I'm sure not caught up with the latest phone buzz!

I want to stick with the phone I have for the following reasons:

I still have 7am-8pm peak hours; $5/mo wireless web & SLOW dial up via
my Palm Vx (whoops!).

If I upgrade phones I have to change to PCS vision.

I want to keep the same phone to avoid the $38 activation charge.

Thanks for the advice!

Oh, this complicates things. I assumed you'd do it yourself. If you
get one off ebay, then take the two somewhere to be swap parts, you're
looking at some $. You have no one handy to do such a swap for you?

Interesting. I don't know how Sprint works, but I assume by the ESN
they know your phone is incapable of using advanced features, hence no
visions charges or something. But I'm still surprised you can't just
switch phones and not have to alter your plan.

Surprising too. Generally an activation charge is for setting up a
line, not for changing a phone. But it is Sprint, with whom I have no
experience.

Your best bet is to use your wily female charms to coax some single
man in to doing the swap work for free.
