GPRS on T720i Using O2 in UK?

Posted: 08-04-2003, 08:19 PM
I live in the UK and have a T720i and I am connected with O2. Apparently
they say the T720i is a phone that is capable of using GPRS & WAP.

I am told that GPRS is faster than WAP & is always connected.

However they are unable to help me automatically set the phone up for GPRS.
They did give me the settings but I do not know where they go as the only
place I can find does not have the setting names that I was given.

Is there anyone out there in the UK with a T720i phone who is connected with
O2 who uses GPRS rather than WAP?

Could anyone please help me set up my T720i to use GPRS?

Is GPRS really better than WAP & Will GPRS work out cheaper than using WAP?

Any advice or information received will be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks!!

I have used GPRS on a T720i thru O2, as it was free up to the end of June.
Worked fine and was faster than WAP.

Navigate your menu to Web Sessions, then select [new entry]
Use something like O2 GPRS as the name, then enter the settings all the way
down that screen as provided by O2. (not all spaces need an entry - just
fill in what info you have been given)

When finished, go back to the Web Sessions screen, find your O2 GPRS in the
list, highlight it and set it as default.

Before using it, you need to ake sure there is a little icon on the main
screen up next to your signal strength indicator. It looks like a box with a
square arrow in each corner. If that icon is not there then you need to get
O2 to GPRS enable your phone.

Having said all that I have reverted back to using WAP. It is not that much
slower, and WAP calls are included in your monthly free minutes allowance on
O2.
GPRS is charged per megabyte and you do not get any free 'calls' on a
standard tariff. I think they charge about 3 quid per Mb, which is not bad
but may may add up if you use it a lot.

If all that fails, take the phone into your nearest O2 shop, I am sure they
will get it set up for you and show you how to use it.

Hope that helps.
