Airtel on Wednesday announced it had made all local calls free for its post-paid mobile customers in this rain-hit metropolis till 1800 hrs on Thursday to enable them to remain "connected."
Despite heavy rains disrupting normal life, the Airtel network was running smoothly providing the much-needed connectivity to the people and as a special gesture to Mumbai citizens, the company has made local calls free for post-paid subscribers, a company statement said.
The gesture follows reports about citizens being stranded in places away from home for long hours due to heavy rains.
Jayant Khosla, CEO, Airtel Mumbai said: "This is a special initiative for all our customers in Mumbai who are facing a difficult time due to the incessant rains. We believe that by making our services free we can provide some relief to all our valued customers to stay connected".
Airtel has a robust mobile infrastructure that brings unmatched connectivity on a congestion free 2.5G, GPRS network with superior voice clarity. The state-of-the-art mobile infrastructure deployed has superior processors to handle calls, reduce network congestion, enable better call completion rate and increase efficiency, he said.
