autorun.inf is a text file. which is normally seen in autorunning CDs ex: windows XP CD. some viruses uses this technique and regenerates back even after if is deleted. sound confusing ?
Normally Anti-virus programs delete the virus traces but not the autorun.inf file. so some clever viruses regenerates back by using the autorun.inf text file. (Dont think your windows XP cd's autorun.inf is a virus - this is totally different)
still in doubt, use
Autorun Eater or
Avast Professional Version - I have tested these 2 and they are effective in eliminating the autorun.infs used by the viruses
