Sim Card Question

Posted: 11-25-2005, 06:04 PM
I have a USB SIM reader/writer that will read but won't write to 2
spare/unactivated cards I have. Does it take a special card to be able to
write to? Thanks

They probably need to be activated first, I think the activation can set
the ratio between phone numbers and SMS's that can be saved.

Wouldn't work with activated card either BUT, found software that will. Only
problem is that it won't read/write to anything but the phonebook and PIN.
Now I would like to make a duplicate card in case something happens to the
card/phone. Also, I accidentally locked a spare card and can't seem to get
it undone even with the PWs I used to lock it. It's asking for a PUK which I
don't know. Can anyone here point me in the right direction? Thanks

Be VERY careful at this point, this is a security feature built in to
the SIM to prevent fraudulent use. You have obviously had this card in
your phone and entered the wrong PIN several times.

IF you enter the wrong PUK code 10 times the SIM will not be
recoverable. Here in Australia we must ring the provider for the PUK
code, I don't know of any other way around that.

The PUK code is different for every SIM, but I do know that the PUK code
does not change because I used to hold the PUK code for a work phone
because the cleaner was making unauthorised calls on it, when we
activated the PIN on the card he tried and locked it on several
occasions. So when we returned to work I was able to enter the PUK code
to allow use of it again.

Sorry I can't be of any further help.

All this was done to a unactivated card...I'm trying to learn on it first.
Since I locked it in the SIM R/W and know the PINs I used, I can't figure
out why I can't undo it or why it's asking for the PUK.
