advice on new phone

Posted: 11-23-2005, 10:32 PM
Hi!
I am just about to get my first cell phone, one of those things I have
been putting off for way to long. I am soon to be opening a small
business, so I need something affordable and reliable. I already have
a digital camera, and a pda, so while it would be nice to have all
three devices combined into one, I can't really justify paying much
extra for those features. The one feature I am definitely seeking is
the ability to talk hands free, with a distinct preference for a
headset, though I might be persuaded to go with speakerphone if a good
argument was presented for it. I also require (this might be standard
on all phones, not sure) to be able to log the time and phone number of
each call. Games, ringtones, music, video, tv, and stylish looks are
features that I do not require, so again, cannot justify spending any
significant amount to have them.
According the rep at the service provider, I can use any phone that is
GSM capable. He also suggested that the company is in the business of
selling wireless service, not selling phones, so while he has phones he
can sell, he also encouraged me to shop around. Well, as we all know,
shopping on the internet is not like going to the store where you stand
in front of a shelf and choose from what is available. when shopping
on the internet, we first have to find out what is available, then we
get to the choosing part, and this leads me to this post.
I have perused motorola, nokia, ericsson, and a couple other sites, and
checked out phonescoop.com, but I find myself mired in a sea of
information looking for a place to start. Two phones that have been
suggested to me by friends are the motorola t720, and the ericsson
t226, these seem to be in my price range, the motorola having the
ability to use a headset a big sell over the ericsson, though. I am
wondering if any of you would be so kind as to take some time to let me
know what you think would be a good phone for my needs, some sites to
shop at, and any pitfalls I should be aware of now before I fall into
them. Any advice is very much appreciated, thanks

If you just want a simple, inexpensive phone without any bells and
whistles, consider the Nokia 6010. It will give you excellent reception
and is practically indestructable.

Some dealers will give you a headset with the phone purchase. You can
buy headests from Nokia or at considerably less expense from 3rd party.
