Blackberry 7290 - how to disable "emergency call" in menu?
Posted: 05-29-2005, 02:34 PM
I can "lock" the device (i.e. stop buttons doing anything when they
are accidentally pressed).
When I go to unlock it, I get three options:
Unlock
Emergency Call
Cancel
Now, the chance of me wanting to call 999 are (hopefully) slimmer than
the chance I just want to use the Blackberry.
However, the scroll wheel is fiddly - I have big fingers - and yes,
today, I accidentally called 999 when I wanted to check my e-mails.
VERY embarassing.
I can NOT believe that RIM put this option in such a STUPID place on
the Blackberry and have been told by our suppliers (it is a corporate
enterprise version) that there is nothing I can do about this and it
is locked into the firmware.
Does anyone know how I can remove the emergency call menu option - or
even re-program the underlying number so it dials my voicemail instead
of the emergency services?
I can not believe I am the only one who thinks this is stupid or has
been caught out by it and accidentally dialled 999 (or 911 if you are
reading this in the USA).
I would also think that the emergency service operators are even more
p****d off than I am when they have to deal with dozens of "accidents"
like this every day.
I am also shocked that the Government ALLOWS RIM to put this option in
such a STUIPID place.
I remember reading an old Nokia manual and it explicitly said "DO NOT
PROGRAM EMERGENCY NUMBERS INTO YOUR SPEED DIAL" - excellent advice!
If no one has an answer - does anyone have an e-mail address I could
use to complain to RIM?
I was SO embarassed this morning it is untrue.
Rant rant grrr grrr!
Thanks,
Casper
