Us pre-pay that allows international roaming?

Posted: 04-25-2005, 06:46 PM
Can anyone suggest a good, inexpensive way for me to have have a
U.S. GSM number that rings when I travel overseas, and which offers
voice-mail and a voice-mail indicator? What I've been doing so far is
forwarding my main number to my T-mobile number, but I don't use
T-mobile enough to keep paying the monthly fee, and their pre-pay
service doesn't allow international roaming. My forwarding service
doesn't allow forwarding to an international number.

Thanks.

What places will you need the sim card for? There are some roaming cards

I just got back from Australia where we used Riiing in one of th
phones. I set up an acct. w. Kall8.com ($2 set up fee, $2/mo. n
contract) to get an 800 number that you program on line to forward t
any number in the world you want. The useage cost to the Riiing phon
was 20 cents/min. The U.S. line was forwarded to the Kall8 line whic
forwarded to the Riiing phone. Incoming on the Riiing phone was free.

It wasn't used all that much. We did have a problem in that call
would NOT go to Riiing's VM. If we answered, all was o.k. No proble
w. outgoing.
The reason it wasn't used all that much was that I am grandfathere
in an an old T-Mobile plan where incoming is 32 cents/min. My persona
business calls are always forwarded direct to my cel when i'm out.
Outgoing for me was 73 cents/min. - about 20 cents more than the Riiin
phone. Since Riiing charges about 20 cents to set up each outgoin
call, the diff. wasn't all that much. New Tmobile users pay $1.4
incoming and outgoing in Australia.
I have just emailed Riiing about the VM problem.

Joel,

Why don't you visit prepaidgsm.net and raise the question there. Of the
prepaid roaming SIMs, the cheapest right now appears to be Riing which has
free incoming calls throughout Western Europe and some other places.

For a call forwarding service, take a look at Stanaphone.com. They'll give
you an NYC number for free. While Stanaphone is meant to be a VOIP service,
they have call forwarding billed against your prepaid minutes.

Joel specifically says he needs a system w. VM. I just used Riiing fo
a couple weeks in Australia and discovered they don't have a functiona
VM system. Thot it was just me until I read posts here and on anothe
group.
I haven't used Stanaphone. Kall8 has been around a long time, i
cheap, and definitely works as advertised.

Stu - I thought, like I, you are under the old T-Mobile rates.
Fortunately, I didn't have to rely on Riiing on this last trip. Mainl
wanted to try it out.

I've been a Kall8 subscriber for three years. It is a great product. The
only country that I've had a problem bridging a connection to was the UAE.
