Siemens S40 & SIM cards

Posted: 04-04-2004, 06:03 PM
I am considering purchasing a Siemens S40 unlocked phone on eBay. We will be
traveling to the UK and it looks like I could use the phone there (get a
"pay as you go" inexpensive SIM card), but it look like the US SIM cards are
expensive and come with plans that I don't need. I have even heard that
Cingular is the only US carrier that has a SIM card compatible with the S40.
I would like to get a US plan that is more "pay as you go". US plans seem to
want to package a phone with rebates when you buy a (in my view) very
expensive plan. I have not had a cell phone up to now and I dislike talking
on the phone in general, so I would like a modest inexpensive plan. Help!

First of all, the S40 will work with any GSM provider. I'm using it with
TMobile.
You can get the cheapest plan with TMobile. However you still have to pay
USD 0.99 roaming for each minute while in UK.
However I would recommend that you get a prepaid SIM card with your phone
while in UK.
