Treo 600 help (UK) +loud speaker

Recently got a Treo 600 on Orange UK.
Downloaded PTunes and tried one of the mp3s which played fine..
BUT
when I plug in the handsfree that came with the phone..
the music still comes out from the loud speaker...
do I need to get a special headset to listen to music?
(the handsfree works ok for phone calls)
