Old SIM with locked telephone numbers

Posted: 02-02-2004, 03:32 PM
I am a user with a 12 year old SIM card which recently 'broke' and no
longer registers in any mobile phone. 'Insert SIM' is the only
response on inserting it into a mobile phone.

My problem is that I have 100 very important telephone numbers stored
on it. T-mobile has order a new SIM card therefore my old one has
been de-activated. I have no idea what can be done to retrieve this
information. I have been told that as long as the SIM is intact, the
information should still be on it - regardless of it having been
de-activated.

Would appreciate any suggestions/solutions. Are there perhaps any
companies in London, UK which could deal with this problem? I have
tried the Carphone Warehouse, but they couldn't read it with their
machines.

To make matters worse, my SIM was issued when you had to cut them out
yourself, and so is not a regular shape.

Thank you.

I think your stuffed with that SIM. Have you kept your old itemised bills?
(assuming the phone was contract), because all the numbers you rang
using that SIM would be on there.

Have you tried with an external SIM Card reader? Shops which are
selling GSM devices should have one because it is a normal customer
care procedure to copy "old phonebook entries" onto a new SIM card.

But this VERY old SIM card may not work in any newer device because
these needed 5 Volt and newer devices just use 3 Volt or less.

Yes, I have tried at The Carphone Warehouse - they have SIM card
readers, but they are only of use for normal functioning, young SIM
cards, not aged, slightly deformed ones ;-). I guess my task now is
to find someone with a 5volt SIM reader. How does one start on such a
mission??

Do a Google search for "SIM Doctor", you will find many retailers such as:
