games, N-gage and the war on terror

The desert can be boring, so I hear. With a friend possibly headed to
Iraq, he's wanting to get a way to keep in touch and a game system. A
Cingular rep recommended the N-Gage. I've seen some information on Iraq
beginning a build out of GSM in the coming months. The plan is to take a
US market N-Gage and some games to Iraq, and to pick up a sim card
locally when they become available.

Seems too simple, so how will this fail?

I hope it doesn't, I'm sending my brother off with two unlocked phones,
a 900 MHz Motorola 8700 and a dual band Nokia 6150. The Coalition
Authority's licensees appear to be putting up three 900 MHz networks,
one per region.

I dug into the N-gage site, trying to find out if there's a USA and
an international model. I find that there's just one.

Triple Band Operation
- GSM 900/1800/1900; automatic switching between bands

Borrow an ATT SIM, and be sure it's unlocked at delivery. Otherwise,
get the salesperson to assist you in obtaining the Subsidy Lock code
there and then!

Tell him to watch out because you can be sure that in Iraq the frequencies
will be 900/1800 as they are in every country in the world except US and its
subsudiaries, a standard US phone on 850/1900 will not work.

NGAGE is only available in a GSM 900/1800/1900 configuration.Only thing
missing would be GSM850, only an issue at present with some ATTWS systems in
USA, wont be an issue at all in Middle East Europe Australia etc..
