Can you provide more info about what you want to achieve and what
you're currently doing?

What are you using to dial the GSM modem attached to the GPS?

Does that GSM modem have a dedicated data number (different from
its default voice number)?

If you're in Australia (as your address suggests), what GSM
carrier(s) are you using?

Is the GSM modem configured to auto-answer after a certain number
of rings?

Is this modem a GSM terminal, or a GSM phone with an in-built
modem? If it's a phone, are you using a genuine data cable
supplied by the phone manufacturer?

What makes you certain you've got a data connection?

There can be a lot of fine detail to get right, and these are
introductory questions.
